About Switch Accounting
Part of the reason Switch accounting is so in tune with small business is that we are a small business ourselves.
Switch Accounting was established in 2004 to address the obvious need for a specialist small business accountancy service in Otago: a service where “small” was valued – not pushed down the queue and left for a rainy day.
Today, Switch Accounting services hundreds of small businesses and rental property owners across Otago. Our clients range from tradesmen and café owners, through to web designers and florists.
Many clients have been with us since the start. For the Switch Accounting team, retaining clients is the most telling benchmark of how well we are meeting clients’ needs.
An accessible and central location is important, so you can pop in with paperwork or for quick client meetings. Switch Accounting is located opposite the Dunedin Public Library’s Moray Place entrance and there are plenty of five-minute parks just outside the door.
The Switch Team
Owner and Senior Accountant
(Bachelor of Commerce, Member of ATAINZ)
As owner, Brian has been with Switch since day one, which was back in June 2004. Before heading out on his own account, he worked locally in management accounting.
"I always had an interest in business and, in particular, the financial aspect of business. Now, as a small business owner myself, I know and understand the pressure and challenges that we – owners – face. I enjoy talking with and helping clients achieve the results they want and being able to remove the pressure of accounting and tax work. Clients generally have better and more productive ways to spend their time."
(Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Accounting)
It’s Anna’s job to make sure Switch Accounting’s internal processes and systems are humming. She is in charge of the day-to-day running of the business and keeping clients happy and informed. Anna has a Diploma in Accounting and supports the accountants in the preparation of monthly and annual accounts.
"I enjoy building great relationships with a wide variety of different clients. It’s great being able to give our clients freedom – taking stress off them, so they can focus on the parts of their work they enjoy."
Jo Le Masurier
Jo joined Switch Accounting in 2013, after eight years with Bush Road Ltd (now South Island Fresh Foods), most recently as its Office Administrator. At Switch, Jo prepares clients' draft financial statements, corresponds with IRD on behalf of clients and prepares PAYE, GST, client payrolls and monthly profit reports. She is currently studying part-time towards a Diploma in Accounting at Otago Polytechnic.
"I enjoy the process of starting with just receipts and bank statements - knowing next to nothing about the client or job - and working through the information to collate the financial statements. And, along the way, I learn about the client and their business. It's also great being able to help clients, by communicating with IRD on their behalf."
Accounts Assistant/Graduate Accountant
(Bachelor of Commerce)
Emily is Switch Accounting's “front of house” - the cheery voice on the end of the phone and the smiling face as you walk in the door. She also prepares monthly reports, payroll, PAYE and GST returns.
"I like the fact that Switch focuses on small businesses and that I get to know the clients. I enjoy the client interaction, especially with working at the front desk. I also value that it’s a relatively small team. It means I get support in my role, compared to working in a big firm."
